UKIERI- A REPORT


UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) is a UK government sponsored educational exchange programme. It is committed to enhance the teaching learning experience for teacher and pupils alike, in particular, create opportunities for students to interact with virtually – and otherwise - the world beyond their classroom.
Contact seminar attended by the Principal at chesire- Dr. D.K. Modi, Principal, JNV Bokaro and leader of Patna cluster along with Sri S.P. Dubey principal, JNV Purnea attended contact seminar from 20th September,2007 to 26th September , 2007 to establish partnership with the Devon cluster of UK.
Patna- Devon Cluster- Six schools of Patna Region viz – JNV Bokaro, JNV Ranchi, JNV Lohardaga, JNV Punea, JNV Darbhanga, JNV W.Champaran, and four schools of north Devon, UK viz- Braunton school and community college, Biddeford college , the park community school and Pilton community college were tagged together to form PATNA- DEVON CLUSTER
Major Areas of interest- initially Environmental issues, geography Art ICT, to provide the opportunities for development of universal values among students through sharing of cultural Heritage were chosen as the major areas of interest. But later on subjects like language and science were also included in this project.
Project Title- The project title of Patna –Devon Cluster is – “ Different part of the same World”.
Objective of the Project – The main objective is to increase and develop knowledge and awareness of India and UK and their cultures and to share similarities and understand differences, as part of a global village.

The visitors were overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm at the warm welcome given to them. They were mesmerized by the Rangolis made at the entrance of the vidyalaya. They highly appreciated the works, models and projects during their visits to different laboratories. They took lesson and interacted with the students. The interaction was lively and fruitful. They were highly appreciative of the tribal art of the Jharkhand and the drawing and paintings of the students. They found roti – making an amazing experience. They loved Indian food. They were moved by the warmth and affection showered on them on their visit to the dormitories. They had meeting with Deputy Commissioner, Bokaro cum Chairman of the vidyalaya, and local authorities. They Loved sightseeing of Kolkata. They visited science city, Victoria Memorial, City center, Birla Planetarium etc. at Kolkata. They had a good time with the families of the staff members. The observed each and every activity of the vidyalaya and had a high opinion about the work culture here. Mrs Lona North was so much impressed that see visited twice and took keen interest to know the Art and culture of India.

The Visitors were thrilled to observe the Education at system and Educational activities of the Partner Schools they found that students keep moving from one Teacher room to the other, the teacher with the entire infrastructure and resources remains in one fixed class room this is really beneficial as the teacher can use the resources well. They can employ latest technologies and used prepared materials to the facility the learning process more conveniently. There are special needs teacher and teaching assistants who provides support and guidance to students who encounter learning difficulties. The teacher Students   ratio is 1: 20. Every class room has its own LCD projector and interactive board .they consider Art, Music , Technology , Sports  as major subject they have wonderful sports and games facilities they learnt that English people are highly punctual. They got a wonderful opportunity to visit places like Exeter Ilfracomte Bath and also famous places of Londan like Londan Eye, Buckiagham Palace, Trafagal Square, Scotland Yard, River Thames etc.  It was a lovely experience for them to share some moments with the families of the teacher of the partner school. They had meeting with the governor of north Devon.
 They took lessons and interested with the students.
  Impact of the Partnership:-

  • Impact on Our Students – UKIERI Provides a unique platform to exhibit the rural talents of India in the field of Art and culture. It had helped in developing skills, attitudes and confidence of students. Students enjoy makings Drawings and paintings, exchanging e-mails, and letters and visit of delegates the most.  It has positive influence on the content and context of their knowledge. Pilton School and Community College was so impressed by the Fine Arts of Harist Kumar of Class XII that it raised a fund of £ 600 to meet the expenses of his visit to UK.
  •  Impact of staff – Teacher have been the deference in ways subjects are taught in partner schools and how to develop their teaching and professional skills .They are learning to make their teaching more activity based . They are employing technology to facilitate the learning.

It has been learning and wonderful experience for the visitor of Patna Devon Cluster and hopefully each will adopt the positive aspect of the other in the based possible manner.
